âShip ahoy!â Came the cry from the crowâs nest. Spyglass raised, you turned your gaze to the sea and there, just off the starboard bow, was your prize: a merchantâs ship called the Santa Avaña, which was reportedly filled to near bursting with all manner of priceless jewels and artefacts. This haul should allow you and your crew to take a lavish holiday somewhere more friendly to pirates.
âOrders, Captain?â First Mate Jeonghan asked, coming up beside you. Pocketing your spyglass, you turned to him with fire in your grey eyes.
âWeâll use that approaching fog bank to our advantage, come up near her stern and take her from behind. With luck, theyâll never even see us coming.â
âAye, sounds like a good plan to me.â Jeonghan nodded and left to pass on the plan of attack.
A chill wind whipped the icy fog through the air, threatening to rip your hat from its perch. You stood ready at the bow of your own ship, the Poison, one hand on your cutlass and the other on your pistol. Just a bit closerâŠcloserâŠnow!
âAttack!â You cried out, grabbing hold of a rope and swinging aboard the other ship. Whipping your cutlass out, you immediately began to hack your way through soldier and servant alike. The pirate scourge Scarla had never left a soul alive before, and you certainly werenât going to start now.
Blood painted the deck in a crimson display, the battle nearly over before it had really begun. Many a new conscript had complained of ears ringing from all the screams, but you had long since grown used to it. In fact, some small part of you even enjoyed those sounds of the abject terror that preluded death.
Before long silence reigned once more on the deck of the Santa Avaña, peaceful in her dying moments. None but the shipâs captain still drew breath, and he was only saved in order to unlock the cargo hold.
âYou filthy fucking pirates!â He screamed, half-mad with fury and fright. âJust wait until the navy hears about this. Theyâll catch you one day, and then youâll hang for your crimes!!â
You laughed mirthlessly, fingers gripping his hair tightly as you hauled him off his knees up to eye level. âBut who will tell the Navy if there are no survivors?â
The captain wheezed out a laugh, spittle mixing with the blood pooling in his mouth. âI feared such an attack, and left my son instructions to alert the Navy if I failed to arrive at my destination.â
You grinned wickedly, knowing what you were about to say would likely break this pathetic man. âYour son wouldnât happen to have the name William, would he?â
The captainâs body sagged, some of the life leaving his eyes. âYou- What did you do to him, you monster?!â
You giggled lightly, the growing flames that surrounded you making you look like the madwoman you were. âOh, nothing too bad; just cut off a few fingers, maybe a limb or two. Whatever it took for him to send a letter to the Navy informing them that your trip would be delayed a few days. Then we left him there. Heâs probably bled out by now, you know.â
An almost animalistic cry ripped from the captainâs blood-speckled lips, the willpower draining from his eyes as he slumped back onto his knees. Weakly digging through his pockets, he produced the key to the shipâs cargo hold, tossing it at your feet with a half-hearted attempt at disgust.
âJust take it and kill me. I have nothing left to fight for anymore.â
You leaned down, picking up the key and pocketing it with a chuckle. âI find that quite agreeable, donât you boys?â The cheers of your crew filled the once silent air.
âVernon and Seungcheol, with me. The rest of you, take care of this pitiful excuse for a human and prepare to finish burning the ship.â
The two crewmates you named split from the group and fell in behind you as you made your way into the lower decks of the ship. You found the cargo hold almost immediately, and unlocked it with the captainâs key. To your dismay, however, the hold was only half full and many of the items didnât even look to be worth two dirt-covered gold pieces.
âLying bastards!â You hissed, features dark with fury. Red-hot colour stained your vision and you swung your cutlass wildly, taking out your anger out on the ship itself. After several tense moments, you finally came back to yourself and looked at the two concerned men apologetically. They said nothing, merely nodding in acknowledgement, then Seungcheol went and fetched a few of the crew to help carry everything back to the ship.
As things were being transferred, you got the odd sense that some of the crew were harbouring feelings of anger or suspicion towards you, but you chalked it up to lingering nerves from your momentary breakdown and left it at that. Once back onboard the Poison, the archers among your crew lit flaming arrows and set the remains of the Santa Avaña ablaze.
You watched the hunk of burning wood sink into the unforgiving waves, then turned back to your own ship. Many of the crewmembers were huddled together, whispering amongst themselves. Something about it put you on edge, so you made a mental note to ask Seungcheol about it later. For now, it was time for everyone to rest and recover from the battle(if it could even be called that).
You were awakened in the dark of night by a hand clapped over your mouth. Instinctively you reached for your cutlass, only to find that your arms were restrained behind you. You cast your gaze around the room, trying to identify your attacker, and were shocked to find that it was none other than Seungcheol who was holding you down. He at least had the decency to look somewhat apologetic when you made eye contact.
âSorry Captain.â He murmured as he wrapped a cloth over your lips. âMe and some of the others have been feeling like youâre holding out on us, keeping some of the booty for yourself. This seemed the only way to change things.â
So thatâs what all this is about. You mused to yourself. A mutiny. Rage rose up within you and you sat, seething, while Seungcheol bound you tightly.
âA few of the boys were against the mutiny; namely Joshua, Vernon, Seungkwan, and Seokmin; but they were outnumbered by the rest of us. The place weâre sailing to has reportedly had a lot of fairy circles show up lately, so when we land weâll leave you in a fairy circle and let the Fae deal with you.â
You rolled your eyes. Your parents had believed in such fairytales as well, hammering basic rules for encountering âthe Faeâ into you so often you could probably still recite them in your sleep. Fairytales were just crutches for weak-minded people, and you were disappointed in your crew for stooping to such levels when youâd thought of them as such strong-willed individuals.
It took almost four full days to reach the place Seungcheol had spoken of, time during which you were kept bound and gagged in your cabin. None of the crewmates who were sympathetic to you were allowed to see you and your meals were sparse enough that by the time the faint call of âLand ho!â reached your ears, hunger pains were beginning to set in. You had to admit, youâd taught them well how to be harsh and ruthless to their prisoners.
It was not Seungcheol who came to fetch you when the Poison docked, but Minghao and Mingyu. Mingyu untied your feet, and the two of them half-dragged you across the main deck until the feeling returned to your legs and you could walk on your own.
Seungcheol was waiting at the bottom of the gangplank, and soon the four of you began the trek into the woods to find a âfairy circleâ. Half-an-hour or so passed until Seungcheol stopped, eyes on the ground in front of him. He stepped aside, and you finally saw what heâd been looking for: a large group of mushrooms growing in a perfect circle. You had to admit, it was rather unusual how perfectly the ring had grown. Mingyu re-tied your feet and they laid you on your side in the midst of the circle.
âSo long Captain.â Minghao spoke for the first time.
âA shame things had to end this way.â Mingyu added, not looking very sorry about it.
The three men turned and walked away without looking back.
You lay on the damp earth for gods knew how long, alternating between bouts of sleep and wakefulness. As the sun was colouring the sky on its way down, you heard the telltale sounds of many feet headed your way. Immediately alert, your eyes darted from place to place, ever watchful as you worked to catch a glimpse of who - or what - was approaching.
Several figures came out of the growing shadows, walking straight towards you. As they got closer you could make out odd features on some of them, such as pointed ears, strangely coloured eyes, or even wings. Much as you hated to admit it, it seemed the Fae really did exist after all.
âLook, Astario, this little fly has already been tied up!â The Fae at the front of the group declared with a derisive chuckle.
The one named Astario grinned smugly. âIndeed! It seems a spider did not want this one. Perhaps we can find a use for her, Ronwyl.â
Ronwyl nodded. âThe Doctor will be most pleased.â
Leaning over, Astario yanked you roughly to your feet, untied the rope around your ankles, and tied your wrists to the saddle of a horse that you presumed was his. âDo try to keep up, little fly.â

⟠Main rule: ă
€Please be nice and respectful. I try my best to make this blog a safe space for everybody, irrespective of gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, etc., and I expect the same courtesy in return.
ă
€More info in general about how I run this blog and how I am as a roleplay partner can be found [here] and [here].
⟠Followers and Mutuals: ă
€I don't do follow-for-follows and I'm not here for numbers. If I follow you, I want to interact with you and I assume that is also why you follow me. I reserve myself the right to unfollow/block blogs that I cannot see myself interacting with and/or that make me uncomfortable in any way, and I highly encourage you to do the same to me if it's ever needed.
ă
€For personal blogs: I usually do not follow back personals because I like to keep a focused dash or else I get easily overwhelmed. Personals are welcome to interact, however! Feel free to send questions, anons, memes/promts, etc. Personals are also welcome to like and leave comments on my posts but, please, refrain from reblogging roleplay threads (it messes up the notifications).
⟠Interactions: ă
€Always feel free to come poke at me in the DMs (or to ask for my Discord!), tag me on a starter, ask me for a starter, send something to my inbox. Unprompted asks are always welcome and the memes/prompts I reblog don't have expiration date, feel free to send at any time. Also, always feel free to continue asks. And I don't really care for reblog karma, reblog all the things directly from me if you wanna.
ă
€I prefer plotted interactions, but I'm also open to winging stuff. Also, I do prefer interactions with at least a half-paragraph of content, because honestly I am very bad at one-liners. Multiple threads with the same person are welcome, as well as interactions with different muses from a same multi-muse blog. Fair warning: I sometimes get wordy in my replies! Please never feel like you have to match reply length. Provided there's content to work with and we're having fun, that's what matters to me.
ă
€I add some formatting to my posts (mostly, different colors and font sizes) and I don't use icons, and I'm okay with any style in my partners' replies. If you need me to keep my own replies looking simple and unformatted, just let me know.
ă
€Last but never least: please don't ever feel like you owe me anything. I'm very patient when it comes to replies (also I can be incredibly slow myself) and roleplay is for fun, not to add to irl stress. Take care of yourself and always put your well-being first!
⟠Content: ă
€The following themes feature heavily in my portrayal: children as soldiers, children expected to act as adults, blood and injuries, death, (progressive) chronic/terminal illness, (progressive) blindness, mental illness symptoms, genocide represented by the Uchiha massacre, segregation and discrimination perpetrated on the Uchiha clan, canon-typical violence, canon-typical eye gore, manipulation associated with the use of genjutsu.
ă
€These themes will NOT be tagged, because they are integral to Itachi as a character. Other potential triggers are tagged as: [insert trigger] cw. Sexual content is tagged as nsft cw and will usually be placed under a Read More cut. If you need something in specific to be tagged, let me know. As for myself, please tag anything related to animal harm/abuse/cruelty. Iâm open to exploring dark/ angsty/ dead dove themes, provided both muns are of age, rightfully consent, and are comfortable with it.
⟠Relationships: ă
€Yes please. Developing and exploring dynamics between muses is actually one of my favorite things to do! I'm open for all sorts of bonds: romantic, platonic, family, friends, friends with benefits, exes, enemies, rivals, hateships, crackships, all of it. This blog is multi-ship and each thread happens in its own universe, unless plotted otherwise. Regarding sexual content, I personally feel comfortable writing it explicitly, however I will always respect what my partners prefer (like making it vague or fade to black entirely).

General rules
The main focus of events run by the UminoIrukaEvents Tumblr account is Umino Iruka from the series Naruto and therefore the main focus of any creations for its events should be Umino Iruka.
You are welcome to create any type of work not limited to fanfiction or fanart, such as metas, headcanons, cosplay, crafts, moodboards, AMVs, emoji, stickers, icon sets etc.Â
Your works need to be newly made for the event and you may not use AI to generate said work.
There is no length or quality requirement for the events unless stated in the event rules.
Your creations should be inspired by one or more event prompts.Â
You are welcome to create any type of content be it gen or ship, SFW, NSFW or DARK - however your works must be tagged appropriately and include warnings where these apply. If you post on Tumblr any non SFWÂ content needs to be hidden under a cut (whether you choose to use Tumblrâs built in rating system is up to you). A tagging guideline will be posted before the start of the first event.
Events will run on Tumblr and with an accompanying collection on Ao3 for you to use if you would like to.
Depending on the event type there may be additional rules/expectations such as mentioning the prompt the work goes along with when posting, respecting the posting date if the prompts are tied to a specific day, filling out the prompts you have completed on your bingo board in a Google Form or similar. Such rules/expectations will be included in a separate post for each event. The main purpose for additional rules is to keep the event organized and so that Mod can reblog your works throughout the event and include your works in the event master post.
You are always welcome to contact Mod through asks on this Tumblr be it with questions, suggestions or just general comments.
Last, but most importantly, no ship, character, content or creator bashing in any form.
General guidelines
If your Tumblr post is long please consider putting it under a cut as a courtesy. Â
If you decide to comment on a participantâs work or otherwise interact with a participant do not offer criticism or constructive criticism unless they have requested so.

tagged by @murderkitten666! thank you đâ€ïž
*will be answering this with both my nsfw and sfw account in mind!
20 Questions for Fic Writers
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
105!! damn, didnt realize i crossed over 100. 43 on nsfw, 62 on sfw
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
427,882 on sfw, 147,849 on nsfw! A nice total of 575,731 words across accounts :3 someday when I hit a million, I'll go get a cake or something
3. What fandoms do you write for?
I've written for many fandoms at this point,, I tend to hop around, I get bored easily đ
To shorten the answer, I am known best for my works in LOZ, one piece, qsmp, and pokemon-- though currently I am writing for solely HXH
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
sfw only* Hunted (LOZ), Warm (LOZ), Within Risk of Reason (OP), Something Shifting (LOZ), and Calling Out (LOZ). Wror was dethroned soundly by my LU LOZ series lmao, that fandom is big on engagement đ„ș
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try my best to!! My response time varies pretty wildly, though. Could be anywhere from within the hour of posting to.... 5 months later. but i do my best to respond regardless. There's several reasons why: It's a courtesy thing, to me, to reply to people who have taken the time to comment, its fun to discuss things, I want to thank people for particularly kind or analytic comments, and because readers tend to remember a reply and comment more frequently. In the end, it just makes both writer and reader happy to reply.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
probably Romantic at Heart? (OP) I like hurt no comfort/bad end hanahaki fics, and that's the only one I currently have up. Personally, my saddest fic is An exercise in grief (LOZ), even though its bittersweet in nature rather than straight angsty.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
That's pretty hard to quantify, a lot of them have happy endings kjsdahbdsa,, maybe Both Haunted and Holy? (OP) There's nothing angsty about it, just a selkie relearning safety and love among his found family in his skin.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
on my nsfw sometimes! Not often, and its usually just a one-off comment a single sentence long. Very easy to ignore, especially on porn. lots of weird purity people who open dark fiction just to call you gross. Brother, you clicked on the fic!
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
sajkdsanj ABSOLUTELY lmfaooo. It ranges, there's some vanilla stuff, but I by-large tend to write darker and often niche content.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I don't write crossovers! I read them every so often, but they're not really for me and I definitely don't want to write one.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I'm aware of! Had art stolen before, though.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Had offers! But nothing posted
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Of a sort?? I've done round-robin with the boggers, and I've done a BigBang event, and I've co-hosted a collection, and I'm currently cowriting an original piece with a friend irl, but no ao3 fic of mine has another's name on it.
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
impossible question, I'm a multishipper fandom-hopper. There Is no all-time ship, just many many many favorite ships that revolve and orbit in my head as I go. Currently into killugon, though!
15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
oof. There's a lot of wips i have, both posted and not posted. I'm of the philosophy that no story is ever unfinished, though. At least not for me! It's only due to the nature of my attention span that i leave things unfinished-- eventually, I will return to the fandom that I left things unfinished, and my interest hopefully last long enough to finish them. it means a long wait, but I believe they'll get done.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Characterization, maybe? Specifically, characterization built through little actions, like how the character fidgets, walks, talks, dresses themselves. Hints that build a person into something real. I'm pretty decent with action scenes, as well.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Dialogue.... and also romance. I despise writing kissing. Romantic intimacy in general makes me kind of cringe to write. Dialogue CAN come easy to me, but only if the character is similar to myself? When I wrote for qsmp, foolish was the easiest I had ever written a character speaking, because he just kind of speaks the way I think. Otherwise, I really struggle. I also have trouble ending things. It always comes off kind of rushed and awkward sounding no matter what I do.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I've done it before! Felt cheesy and awkward, though. Though I think that's more because I was writing from the POV of a character adjusting their language over time than anything. This also depends on the language, of course, I could write something in Spanish pretty easily but if I tried to write in a language I'm not familiar in or at least have a friend who knows it, I'm fucked
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Warrior cats! When I was like 10, on FFN. On AO3, my first posted fic was for Moomins in like 2018?
20. Favourite fic you've ever written?
sfw only* An exercise in grief. I reread that fic, and maybe only that fic of my own posted sfw writing. It was all my feelings and grief about AOC and mipha and hopeless, angry, bittersweet, guilty grief combined in a dense like 4.4k of words and it bothered me for a bit how slow it was for people to pick it up. That fic means a lot to me! It was raw in a way few of my fics do.
Tagging @touchmycoat, @midnightluck, @ruthlesslistener, @tciddaemina, @hergan416, @timeskip , @authenticaussie , and @ashyronfire ! Any mutual untagged, feel free to do as well :3
#tagged#tag meme#depths' talks#thanks for the tag charlie!!!#edit- unsure why when posted this says timeskipped nari and ashyr arent actually @ed?#hmm i hope they see it anyway#if not tho ill just send it directly to them LMFAO

Hey, could you possibly use an altered tag for posting about your IRL relationship?
It's extremely triggering to just randomly scroll across and I get that you're a fictive but those tags are not for you, they're for the character and it's very common courtesy to not do that!
Also, if you need help please reach out to someone, what you're doing is concerning for you as a system, please be safe!
What are you on about đIf you're getting triggered over my posts that seems more like a you issue than a me issue. You cannot gatekeep the ship tags I use in my posts, it's not that big of a deal that I use them either and shouldn't be causing a huge reaction like this. If its triggering for you, than scroll instead of continuing to read what I post. There is also a BLOCK BUTTON for a reason if you don't like my content. And no I don't need help? How is what I post concerning for me as a system... if anything this is a bit more concerning for you.

you are SO right for autistic Manfred lmao that is also my hc. This dude once screamed at the top of his lungs in the middle of court cause someone interrupted his routine. He's so fucking relatable unfortunately
TRULY. I too want to scream aloud when things donât go as Iâd planned in my head!
Like, thereâs the other obvious things: law is clearly his special interest. Heâs the kind of person who has a place for everything and everything in its place.
Then thereâs the just fucking off-the-wall things, like, he retrained the parrot. Even thinking to ATTEMPT it doesnât seem like allistic behaviour to me, and by god, Manfred succeeded.
But the biggest thing to me is just how ⊠rigid he can be when things go wrong, and how he really struggles with emotional lability in times of crisis. I know relating villainâs crimes to autistic traits can often be controversial, but I believe in most cases with villains I personally headcanon as autistic, itâs the lack of support in their life and society that contribute to the crimes, not simply being autistic.
Which is why the part about the tragedy of it all â how it hurts more â if Manfred had been trying his best in your meta really hit home to me! I know for myself one of my autistic traits is obsessing over what people tick and what makes them do the things they do. I donât think anyoneâs truly evil, but I do believe that people so often act in the preservation of their own self image and ⊠yeah, it that doesnât explain Manfredâs actions ⊠perfectly (ba dum tsch).
OH, and thereâs also just like, his sense of humour? Itâs so arrogant but dry: âMy PIN is 0001 because Iâm number one!â âMy granddaughterâs dog is named Phoenix, are you saying youâre her fiancĂ©?â âDefense attorneys are like bugs to me, needless things, to be crushed.â
God, I love this man.

Dragon Age Fanfic Masterlist [Ace Attorney & Mass Effect Masterlists TBA] ABOUT THIS BLOG.
I'm a fanfic writer and occasional art doodler & cosplayer from Australia. This is a personal blog, which contains everything from my own rambles about daily life, to reblogs of content I enjoy, to my own fandom creations.
I enjoy fannish meta but am generally disinterested in discourse. To clarify, I'm always down to read other people's takes and interpretations of media, but dislike being told what to think, or that there's only one valid way to perceive something. I'm more than happy to be friends with people who disagree with me over fandom things, if the same courtesy is extended to me in return. As a general rule, I don't talk about international politics in this space. I do, however, talk about Australian politics (#auspol) Big fan of curating one's own space. To that end, if there's anything I'm not tagging which you would like tagged, please feel free to ask! Caveat: I might not agree to do so, but would not hold any hard feelings for the request and/or if you needed to unfollow or block me as a result! Do what you need to for your best experience, as will I.

ngl but rewatching the first season of the handmaid's tale after watching season 5 is so funny. one of the first things serena says to june is 'i want to see as little of you as possible'. followed up with basically 'if i'm given trouble i'll give you trouble back'
and now they're going to be raising their babies in exile together and you know what. good for them.

My #1 post of 2022
Fanfic Author Self-Recs!
@haljathefangirlcat tagged me to rec five of my own fanfics with you all â thank you, friend! đ I've tried to go with a variety of different fandoms and have mostly focused on older works. I also purposely haven't recommended any of my Dragon Age works as I feel DA has been occupying a lot of my brain space lately, and I wanted to give some of the spotlight to my other fannish interests! I'm gonna tag @mxanigel, @barbex, @joiningthefandomeightyearslate, @chocochipbiscuit and @fandomn00blr to share five of their works with us (if you so desire!) Without any further ado, I present my self-recs: 1. Retrospect - Mass Effect: Andromeda - Alec Ryder/Ellen Ryder (10k, rated M)
They say your life flashes before your eyes before you die and he's about to find out just how right they are.
A series of vignettes exploring Alec Ryder's relationships with his nearest and dearest, and the faltering steps he took to bridge the gaps between them.
Every time any sort of self-recommendation meme comes up, Retrospect is always the first fic that comes to mind. To this day, I still consider it my magnum opus, as I feel it really captures my strengths as an author. Character study of a morally grey, controversial character? Check. Non-linear narrative? Check. Experimental prose? Check. Vignettes? Check. Themes of family and struggling to fit in? Check check. If anyone ever wants to make my entire fucking month, please read this fic and tell me your thoughts on it. You will have my undying gratitude! đ
2. Grounded - Mass Effect Andromeda - Calvin Kosta/Joelle Kosta (2.2k, rated M)
Calvin remembers the first time he held Liam in his arms. Big baby, nine pounds. His son is an ugly, wrinkly thing and yet also the most beautiful sight in the world. He smooths down the infantâs hair, kisses the soft spot on his head and whispers, âYouâre gonna do great things." During the Reaper War, Calvin Kosta reflects on his relationship with his son.
This fic did really well on Tumblr (one of the few times I'd ever gotten over 100 notes on a post), but didn't quite get the same level of traction on AO3, which was quite interesting to me at the time as I'd never had that happen before (or since!) Honestly, it covers a lot of similar themes as Retrospect, but this time focused on Liam's family and how they deal with the Reaper War when they're left behind on Earth. IDK, I'm just obsessed with examining the human drive to live and survive, and what we struggle for, and how both our past experiences and our hopes for the future shape our actions, whether we're willing to admit it to ourselves or not.
3. Best Served Hot - Ace Attorney - Miles Edgeworth/Franziska von Karma (2k, rated E)
Franziska's gloved fingers seized Miles's jaw, digging into the sides of his face. "We were never siblings," she said. "Papa made sure of that. But if I can't best you in any other way, then I will have this."
If Retrospect is my ultimate magnum opus, then Best Served Hot is my franmiles manifesto. It truly is all of my feelings about this complicated and messy relationship dynamic carefully distilled into a fanfic! Anyway, I'm obsessed with the fact that Franziska regularly refers to Miles as her little brother, but Miles never refers to her as his sister.
However, the way that Miles acts with Franziska is SO sibling-like, whereas Franziska's a bit... weirder. She never really had normal familial relationships modeled to her (Miles, on the other hand, at least had something of a normal upbringing before his father's death).
Franziska is also a character who, for lack of a better term, weaponises her femininity. She's so young but she's built this whole aesthetic around tight miniskirts and kitten-heeled boots and carrying and using a fucking bullwhip. So, I 'm particularly fascinated by the cross-section of Franziska's obsession with Miles Edgeworth and her insecurities (and how she over-compensates for them).
Of course, if she stopped to think about it for a minute, she should have realised that Miles Edgeworth is perhaps not the ideal target for her feminine wiles, but Franziska's not exactly known for keeping a cool head in a crisis.
Finally, this fic also explores another point in Franziska's life that I'm fascinated by, which is her reaction to Phoenix Wright's disbarment. Phoenix is the only lawyer who has ever bested her (if she can even admit that much), and I think she would be INFURIATED by the insinuation that he owes his career success to forgery. Franziska von Karma would NOT be bested by a fraud! (And also she would be furious that Klavier Gavin got the chance to do what she's always wanted to do -- that is, defeat Phoenix Wright -- but that's a topic for another fanfic.)
4. Intermission - Crazy Ex-Girlfriend - Audra Levine/Greg Serrano (2.3k, rated T.)
Recently divorced Audra Levine visits West Covina to provide moral support during her frenemyâs open mic night. Greg has always had a type.
While gregaudra (graudra?) might be something of a random ship, I was really surprised by how well they worked together (although in hindsight, it should have been obvious -- Greg really has a type, huh). I love Audra as a character, and I'm always obsessed with giving her room to grow and move on as a character and determine the shape of her own life, the way she wants, much as Rebecca (and Greg) got to do in the course of the series. (Also, its sequel, Realization, still has one of my favourite lines I think I've ever written: Audra's been busy filing away the parts of her life that donât spark joy while retaining the parts that do, like sheâs Marie Kondo-ing the weight and burden of everyoneâs expectations instead of her household possessions.
I so rarely write in contemporary fandoms that it was a fun exercise to write stories where the popculture references actually help ground it in time and place.)
5. Sink or Swim - Harry Potter - Percy Weasley/Oliver Wood (12k, rated T.)
Percy has always struggled to keep his head above water.
(Or: the story of Percy Weasley, from his youth, through to his estrangement with his family, to the end of the war.)
It feels weird to be recommending HP fic in this day and age, but my complicated* feelings towards the fandom aside, I'm still really proud of how this fanfic turned out and how I was able to cram all of my Percy Weasley analysis into a coherent story. I particularly loved delving into how Percy was pushed into positions of responsibility from a young age (and then simultaneously derided for the very same qualities his parents reinforced), and how he struggled with his conflicting desires to fit in but also to succeed and be recognised for his talents and efforts. There's a couple of sentences from the fic which really encapsulate how I see Percy's relationship to his family, which I'll quote here:
In bits and pieces, Percy tells Oliver all about the estrangement to his family: how heâd always gotten along with his dad best growing up, no matter how his mother had doted on him. How when he was younger, heâd wanted nothing more than to be the next Arthur Weasley. How heâd always thought that his dad deserved more.
How it was easier to blame his fatherâs idiosyncrasies and personality for his familyâs struggles with money, than to acknowledge it as a failure of the society heâd been raised in.
How heâd foolishly thought that if he studied enough, worked enough, succeeded enough, he could change it all.
Percy's story really is that of every working-class child who's sought to improve their life (and their family's life) through education and I just... relate to that a lot!!

hi byler tag!! letâs have a lesson on crosstagging! i know a lot of the byler tag population comes from twitter where things like this donât matter so hereâs a little crash course.
first: the difference between tags and searches. on tumblr mobile when you search for a term, by just typing in the word and hitting search, you are being brought to any and all posts that contain this term in ANY way. iâm going to use the ship buddie as an example because itâs a ship thatâs also a word so itâs easier to explain. so if you were to search for the term âbuddieâ, youâre also going to see any post that has the word âbuddiesâ in its content or itâs tags, regardless of if itâs about the ship or not.
where as if you click the button that says âgo to #buddieâ you will now ONLY be seeing things that have the specific tag â#buddieâ tags that are full sentences that include the word will not be included, and posts that only include the word in the body content but not tags will also not be included.
this discrepancy is relatively new to the tumblr search system and also it sucks! but itâs honestly just excessive to be avoiding saying other names and ship names at ALL to try and avoid entering other spaces, so really we just need to focus on staying out of the specific tags.
next: when crosstagging is okay, and when it becomes invasive. you should only be using multiple tags when your post makes a point about everything youâre tagging. when using one ship as proof or basis for analysis of another ship, you arenât making any points about the former, so itâs appropriate to only tag the latter. it can be a little bit of a gray area sometimes so do what feels right to you but if anyone asks you to stop cross tagging, listen to them and respect the request. iâd say when it comes to the byler tag, just donât cross tag. thereâs enough exposure in this tag that itâs really unnecessary and just clogs other tags.
finally: when to censor. as a general rule of thumb, you donât need to censor anything in your text body if you are talking positively about things. if youâre talking negatively, itâs common courtesy to censor names and ship names so that no one who is searching for these things has to see negativity. (also remembering to use neg and doubt tags but thatâs something for another day). most of the byler tag is very familiar with censoring for negativity, as is evident with the m*leven variants.
in conclusion: if you want to post paralells between stranger things couples or characters, keep it to the byler tag unless you are centering the other ship in your post and making a point about them, not just using as byler proof. thereâs nothing wrong with using other characters to draw parallels to byler, but respect the fandom spaces of people who want to discuss things other than byler.

What is your writing advice for young people who want to write fanfiction and original stories in the near future?
If this is just Way Too Much, skip to the end (#16). My most important piece of advice is there. I also happen to think #5 is pretty good.
-_-_-_-
1) Literally just write. Write whatever you want, and do a lot of it.
_-_
2) You donât have to post everything. In fact you donât have to post anything. You can, donât get me wrong, but it can be intimidating to sit down and think âI will now write something that other people will see and read and judge with their eyeballs.â Because thatâs probably gonna lead to nerves and writer's block. Just write down the ideas that you have, the things you want to write, whateverâs in your brain that you want to explore and expand upon and make into something. And then if you want to, share it. Or donât share it. I have plenty of half-baked ideas and documents and random story chapters and shit hidden away on my Google Drive that will never see the light of day, for a whole number of reasons. I wanted to write it but it wasnât ~Spicy~ enough to warrant posting, or itâs only like an eighth of a good idea, or itâs like one scene with no story around it, or itâs just something incredibly self-indulgent I just wanted to write for my own enjoyment.
Point being, donât write for other people. Donât write so that other people can read it; write what you want, write for yourself, and then if you want to share it, do.
_-_
3) You can pretty much ignore any and all of these for fanfiction. In fact, you can ignore pretty much any rules or guidelines you want for fanfiction. Fanfic is a sandbox. You donât have to be a âprofessional writerâ to post fic. No one expects you to be Stephen King or Margaret Atwood. Fanfic is just for playing in a fandom and having fun. If you wanna write a 50 chapter slow burn with very little plot aside from the OTP slowly getting to know each other, and no real stakes or central conflict, I guarantee people would read that. Really, fanfiction is the Old West of writing: lawless, wild, unpredictable, and free.
However, here are the rules you must follow:
-Separate your paragraphs. (Iâm sure you know this already, but Iâm gonna say it anyway just in case.) Do not post one big block of text. Make a paragraph break when someone new is talking, when the characters are in a new place, when a new event occurs that changes the scene, when a chunk of time has passed, and when thereâs a major change in subject.
-I know itâs obvious, but... grammar, punctuation, and capitalization. They exist to make writing easy for readers to read, and more people will read your stuff if they donât have to stop and try to figure out what you meant.
-Use tags and labels, as is possible with whatever site youâre using. Especially if you include possibly triggering content in your story. Again, I know itâs obvious, but itâs common courtesy. Bonus: tagging the themes and content of your story helps readers find it and read it :)
-If possible, limit the use of all-caps and exclamation marks / question marks. 99% of the time, one ! or one ? will do. If you overload the page with a lot of all-caps and long rows of exclamation marks or question marks, it hampers readability.
... Thatâs literally all I can think of. And, like I said, itâs all pretty basic stuff. You were probably rolling your eyes like, âUh, yeah, Gwen, I know.â But thatâs literally it. You can pretty much do whatever you want in fanfic.
That being said, hereâs my advice for both fanfiction and original work...
_-_
4) A quick and dirty rule for coming up with a plot, starting a story, keeping up pacing, or maintaining tension: figure out what dreams, desires, and goals are nearest and dearest to your main characterâs heart (see #16). Then set up the main conflict to be directly in opposition to that goal. It doesnât have to be in a tangible way, though it could be. But, if your main character wants more than anything to reach the ships on the southern coast of your world and sail to a new life, make sure the main conflict immediately prevents them from doing that - in fact, make sure to send them north. If your main character just wants to keep their loved ones safe, kidnap the loved ones. If your main character just wants to date their best-friend-turned-crush, make sure they think they have no chance - or, make them cocky about it, and make sure it makes Person B determined not to ever like them. You get it. Figure out what your character most wants, and then keep them from having that. Boom - your conflict now ties in with your character's motivation. It's like instant yeast for plots.
_-_
5) If youâre anything like me, you want your first draft to be Good, despite all that advice about how the first draft doesnât have to be good and itâs just to get words on the page, yadda yadda. And if youâre somewhat of a perfectionist (like myself), itâs easy to get stuck looking at a blank page because you donât have The Perfect Words, and you want what you write to be Good the first time.
Hereâs how I cheat that:
Instead of trying to write a Good First Draft from a blank page, hit the enter key a few times, skip a little down on the page, change your ink to red (or blue, or whatever - just something immediately identifiable as Not Black) and just thought vomit. Write whatever the hell youâre thinking, exactly as you think it. Donât worry about it being readable, donât worry about narrative flow for now, donât worry about covering all the details, donât worry about anything except either a) getting all the details of your idea out onto the page, whether thatâs a lot or whether itâs just a sentence or two, or b) if you donât have an idea yet, finding your way there.
Because this method is also very good for finding your way to ideas when youâre stuck in writerâs block.
Because of how human brains work, getting this stuff out onto the page - in all its messy, stream-of-consciousness glory - will likely spark more thoughts. As you write your original idea about the scene, itâll likely spark more ideas. Creation begets creation. If you just start thought-vomiting your ideas onto the page, chances are youâll think of more things as you go, and youâll start filling out description or dialogue or tone or action or whatever, and pretty soon the scene starts writing itself.
Not sure where youâre going with the scene or which ideas you wanna use? Use a lot of ambivalent language in your âthought-vomit draft.â My pre-writing notes are chock-full of the words âmaybe,â âperhaps,â and the phrases, âAt some point...â and â...or something like that.â In this way, I donât tie myself down to one idea; itâs just an idea, and Iâm keeping it on the page in case I use it, but I might chuck it in the trash or change it or whatever.
And then, once your ideas for the scene (or story, or chapter, or whatever) are on the page, then go back to the top and start translating them into a ârealâ first draft. Use black ink, and start copy-pasting chunks of the thought-vomit up into the top part of the document and translating them into Draft 1. Separate out paragraphs where paragraph breaks should be. Add the correct punctuation and whatnot. Change âdescribe the lobby here - include potted plants, fancy carpet, blood stain, etc.â into an actual description of the lobby. Flesh it out, or condense, or whatever it needs. And if youâre still stuck, change back to red ink and ramble some more until you find a path that feels right, then plug that in. This keeps you from looking at a blank page, and it allows you to generate a kind of Draft 0.5, somewhere between a plan and a first draft.
You donât have to use every idea. Like I said, jot down whatever comes to mind, put a âmaybeâ before or after it, and keep working. If the idea grabs you and you wanna keep expanding on it and exploring it, cool. If you just wanna jot it down so you donât forget it and then move on, also cool. Red-ink draft / âthought-vomit draftâ is your time to jump around in the timeline, add or finesse details at whatever point your brain moves to, etc. Donât try to do it exactly in story order, because you will get tangential thoughts and ideas, and you will not remember to write them down five pages later when you finally get to taking notes on that scene. Trust me. On that note...
_-_
6) Write everything down the moment you think of it. Seriously.
âIâll remember it when I get around to writing that scene in a couple days / weeks / months (/years).â
You wonât.
Write it down.
Phone, journal, google docs - hell, my family regularly laughs at me for grabbing a napkin during dinner and scribbling thoughts down alongside pasta sauce stains.
And then, once you have it written down somewhere...
_-_
7) Consolidate your writing ideas in one place.
Maybe this isnât really your style, and thatâs totally chill.
Buuuut, if youâre Type-A like me - or if you tend to be somewhat unorganized and you know youâll lose track of your writing notes if theyâre scattered across multiple notebooks, journals, napkins, phone notes, etc. - having one consolidated document of notes is a life saver. I keep mine on Google Docs so I can access it, add to it, and look through it for inspiration anywhere at any time. When I have one of those Shower Thoughts that I jot down on my phone or on a napkin during dinner, I set myself a reminder on my phone to type it up in my Story Ideas document later.
(Or, if the idea I had was for a story of mine that Iâve already started planning / drafting / whatever, I put it in the document for that story instead of the Big Random Story Ideas doc. You get it.)
_-_
8) Have other ways to collect and save writing ideas, besides just writing stuff down. If you like Pinterest, make pinterest boards of your characters or stories or settings or whatever. If youâre big into playlists, make a playlist for your character / setting / story / etc. Or both. Or something else. Iïżœïżœm not good at drawing, but maybe you are, and maybe you like to draw your ideas. Whatever form it takes, having another way to save ideas and think about your stories is invaluable.
_-_
9) Some writers can just start writing with no idea where the story is going, and they just kind of figure it out as they go. I envy those writers. And I do that sometimes for fanfiction, where the stakes are somewhat lower and the audience is reading more for scene-to-scene enjoyment (and to see their OTP kiss) than for a Driving And Compelling Narrative.
But hereâs the thing: especially if youâre just kind of starting out, writing without some sort of plan is really, really hard, and will likely lead you into a slow, meandering narrative that will likely frustrate you.
Even if you think youâre someone that just canât write with a plan (and again, I have the highest respect for pansters out there - I donât know how you do it, you crazy bastards, but you keep doing you) - even if you think âI canât work with plans, theyâre too prescriptive, I just want to write and see what happens -â
Try at least making the most skeletal of plans.
Even if you have no clue what 90% of the story is, yet. Thatâs fine. But you need to have some idea of what youâre building to, even if thatâs nothing more specific than a feeling, or a turning point for your character. Even if your entire plan for everything beyond Chapter 1 is, âAt some point, Charlie needs to realize that Ed was lying to her.â
This is where those Draft 0.5 notes come in handy. Because, more than likely, working on your current scene that way will spark ideas for later scenes, which you can put down at the bottom of the document and save for when they become relevant. In my experience, the line between planning ahead and making a Draft 0.5 is exceptionally thin. One can quickly turn into the other.
If youâre really, really resistant to the idea of planning ahead, thatâs okay. Itâs not everybodyâs style. But for the love of all that is holy, write down your ideas for future scenes, even if youâre a person that doesnât like to plan and writes only in story order, because you will not remember that idea once you get to that scene.
_-_
10) You donât have to write in order.
Hereâs the thing: Iâm a person that can only do my Draft 1 in story order (meaning, chronological order). I just have to be in that flow; I need to write in story order for me to best channel where the character is at from scene to scene, both narratively and emotionally.
But my Thought Vomit Draft is another thing entirely. By using the brain hack of putting my notes in red (or another color, it doesnât matter) and going down to the bottom of the document / page and taking notes there, and then integrating them into whatever plan I have, and then translating them into Draft 1 once I get there in the story - by doing that, I can get my good ideas onto the page (and expound upon them and let my muse carry me and ride that momentum while Iâm in the moment of inspiration) without writing out of order.
Maybe thatâs just me. But if youâre a person who really prefers to write in story order, that could be hugely helpful to you. It is to me.
_-_
11) Emotion and motivation will do more for your story than technicalities of plot.
If your characters really care about something, and their journey through the (shaky or weak) plot is emotionally engaging, it will be a much more compelling story than a story with a âperfectâ plot and unrelatable or unmotivated characters.
If your characters care about what theyâre doing, and it means something to them, and their goals and actions are driven by dreams or fears or emotions that are integral to who they are, your audience will care too. If you have a perfectly crafted plot that hits all the right beats and has high stakes and fast pacing and drama - but your characters donât connect with whatâs happening in a way thatâs deeply meaningful or emotional for them? Youâre gonna have a hard time engaging readers.
When in doubt, prioritize character emotion and motivation over plot. Emotion is what drives story.
This power is highly exploitable. (Just look at pulp novels and shitty but entertaining movies.) You can even use it to glaze over plot holes or reinvigorate a limp narrative. Use it that way sparingly, though. Itâs a band-aid, not a surgery.Â
_-_
12) Evil villains are hard to write - mostly because there are very few truly evil people in the world. (There are a few. Billionaires and several big name politicians come to mind.) But by and large, there arenât that many evil people. There are plenty of bad people, but bad people have some good in them, somewhere in there. Trying to write an evil villain is hard, because they often turn very cartoony.
Hereâs a tip: itâs much easier to write antagonists who arenât evil. Even if theyâre bad people. Of course, thereâs no reason you canât write a villain thatâs just truly evil - a serial killer, or an abuser, or a billionaire, or someone who legit just wants to hurt people or blow up the earth or stay in control of an oppressed population, or whatever. But chances are, itâs gonna be really hard to make them feel real, and even harder to create a plot around them that doesnât feel forced or contrived.
Instead, try writing an antagonist / villain whose motivations and goals directly clash with your protagonistâs - but not because they want to take over the world or see people suffer. Write an antagonist whoâs chaotic good, but whose perception of the situation is completely opposite from your heroâs. Write an antagonist whose only desire is to save people, and who will do anything to achieve that goal - anything. Write an antagonist who believes in the letter of the law, and will hinder and oppose the heroâs methods even if they agree with the heroâs motivation. Write an antagonist who got in way over their head and did some things they regret, and now they donât know how to get out, and theyâre doing their best but whatever they set in motion is too powerful for them to stop now.
Write villains who are human. Write a killer who thought they were doing the right thing by taking their victim out of the equation, who vomits at the sight of the body and sobs over the grave they dig. Write a government leader who truly believes sheâs doing whatâs best for her people in the long-term, even if it might hurt them in the short term, and is willing to endure the hatred and belligerence of the masses if it means securing what she thinks is a better future for her people. Write a teenage bully that thinks theyâre the one being picked on by the world, and theyâre just fighting back, standing their ground. Write a scientist who will break any code of ethics and hurt anyone he needs to - in order to bring back his baby sister from the grave, because he promised her heâd protect her and he failed. Write an antagonist who is selfish and self-centered and capricious - because in order to survive they had to look out for Number One, and that habit ainât about to break anytime soon.
Write villains who arenât even villains. Write antagonists who oppose the hero because of moral differences. Write antagonists who are trying to do the right thing. Write antagonists who treat the heroes with kindness and dignity and respect and gentleness.
They donât have to be good. They donât have to be Misunderstood Sweethearts who âdeserveâ a redemption arc. They can be cruel and nasty and dismissive and callous and violent and etc. etc.
Just hesitate before you make them Evil-with-a-capital-E. Because evil is hard to write, and honestly, boring to read. Flawed human beings with goals and motivations that directly oppose the main charactersâ are much easier to write and much more interesting to read.
Ask why. Why is your villain trying to take over the world? What does that even mean? Are they trying to create a Star-Trek-like post-capitalism utopia, but they know that wonât happen in a million lifetimes, so theyâre trying to do it by force? Are they actually super in favor of human rights, but they got very impatient waiting for the world to do anything about poverty and war, so they decided to take it into their own hands? Are they determined to fix the world - no matter the cost? Are they terrified and overwhelmed, but committed to see it through to the end? Or - maybe theyâre just doing it on a dare. Maybe they donât really give a shit about world domination, they were just a mediocre rich white guy who decided to fuck around and find out, and now heâs kind of curious how far he can take this thing. And now heâs kind of an internationally-wanted criminal, so heâs kind of stuck living on his hidden private island in his multi-billion dollar secret base, strapping lasers to sharksâ heads for the hell of it. Gross, selfish, uncaring, and dangerous? For sure. Evil? Depends on your definition. See, now weâre getting somewhere.
_-_
13) Itâs tempting to let the plot control the characters. Itâs easy to drop your characters into a situation and see how they react. But hereâs the thing: that doesnât drive plot. In fact, it bogs down pacing. Instead, try to build you plot off of your charactersâ actions and decisions. Let your character build their own situation. Not to say it should go they way they wanted it to go; in fact, usually, their grand plans should go to hell very quickly. But having the characters take action and make decisions, and letting the plot develop based on that, is much easier to make compelling than making a rigid series of events and then trying to herd your characters into them.
_-_
14) Having trouble justifying a characterâs actions? Consider having them make the opposite decision, or having them approach the situation in a different way. For example: you need your character to go meet the bad guy, for plot reasons, even though thereâs no way itâs not a trap. If the character goes, readers are gonna be groaning with their head in their hands, because câmon man, that was really fucking stupid. But heâs gotta go, because the plot needs that. Two ways you might handle this: a) He knows itâs probably a trap. He decides not to go. The plot conspires to get him near the villain anyway. Or, b) He knows itâs a trap. But he needs to go, for (insert reasons here). So, he approaches it in an unexpected way. He brings backup, recruiting a side character we met earlier in the story. Or he arrives on the back of a dragon, because ainât nobody gonna fuck with a dude on a dragon. Or he goes - early, and ambushes the villain. It may work, it may not. He may get himself kidnapped anyway. But it moves the plot along without having Stupid Hero Syndrome.
_-_
15) This is a legit piece of advice: if all of this sounds overwhelming, literally just ignore it and write what you want. For real. Writing should be fun, and every single writer operates differently. If youâre sitting here like âIâm getting stressed just reading this,â just flip me a good-natured bird and get on with your life. I promise I wonât take it personally. Same goes for literally any other writing advice you see. Lots of rules and guidelines can very quickly make anything thoroughly un-fun. Just write. If youâre passionate about it and you do it for long enough, youâll start figuring out the tips and tricks on your own.
_-_
16) Hereâs the best piece of advice I can give you: know your characters. More importantly, know whatâs important to them. Build their personality and decisions off of that, and build your plot off of their decisions.
I see a lot of character building sheets that ask a shit-ton of questions like âWhatâs their most prized possession?â âDo they like their family?â âWhatâs their favorite food?â
And while these are good questions, my problem with this type of character building is that if you start there, with the little stuff, youâre building on nothing. IMO, to make a truly strong character (not strong like Inner Strength, strong like effective), you need a strong foundation.
Here are the things you must know about your character:
a) What are their greatest fears / deepest insecurities? And I donât mean âwaspsâ or âheights.â I mean the deep shit. I mean fears like âliving a meaningless life,â or âturning out just like their parents,â or âthat no one will ever love them,â or âbeing powerless.â You may say, âBut theyâre really scared of wasps! They fall into a wasp nest when they were little and got stung so much they almost died!â Great! Thatâs a fantastic bit of backstory. They should absolutely be afraid of wasps, and that should absolutely be an impediment later in the story. But dig deeper. What about that event actually scarred them? Was it the helplessness? Stumbling around, swatting at the air, not being able to do a single thing to stop what was happening to them? Was it that they were alone, and no matter how loud they screamed, no one was coming? Was it the bodily horror of feeling themself turn into an inhuman creature as they swelled up from the stings, unable to move their fingers or face normally anymore?
And donât forget insecurities, because those factor in, too. Are they deeply insecure about their identity? Do they believe, deep down, that theyâre ugly? Did they grow up poor and theyâve always been really touchy about that? Why? Dig deep. Figure out what really, really bothers them.
b) What are their hopes and dreams? What do they truly want out of life? What do they consider the most valuable to their experience here in this thing called life? Is it the freedom to forge their own path and be independent? Is it the approval of their family or peers? Is it a home? Is it knowledge, or understanding? Spiritual fulfillment? Is it deeply important to them that they contribute to their community, or protect those they love? What do they need in order to feel truly and deeply fulfilled in life?
Figure out those two things (each one encompasses several things, btw, you donât have to stop at just one for each), and then use that to inform how they behave and the types of decisions they make within the story.Â
It also informs character behavior and personality.Â
Letâs say we have a character whoâs afraid of helplessness. Theyâre probably gonna be the person that always wants to do something, try something, no matter how hopeless the situation seems. Theyâd despise just sitting and waiting, probably, because it makes them feel powerless. They might even be the person that makes rash decisions and acts impulsively and puts themself in danger unnecessarily, because in their mind itâs better than being at the mercy of fate. This is one way you could use a characterâs personality to inform their decisions, which in turn helps to inform plot.
Or, letâs say we have a character whose greatest fear is being left behind or forgotten. We may have a chatterbox on our hands. They might be obnoxious. They might love the spotlight, constantly vying for attention no matter the situation, because deep down theyâre so afraid that theyâd be forgotten otherwise. Or, it may go the opposite way. They may be so afraid of people leaving them that theyâre terrified of bothering people. They donât want to do anything that could annoy people, anything that might give people a reason to leave them. They might be exceedingly polite, quiet, accommodating. A push-over, really.
These are two nearly opposite types of personalities, both stemming from the same core fear/insecurity. You can go a lot of different ways with it. But if you build on that strong foundation, youâll have a strong character, and a stronger plot.
Likewise, the structure of your story can and should inform the design of these character traits. If you need your characters to team up near the end, it may be impactful if you give your main character a deep fear of commitment, an insecurity about being unwanted or left behind, and make them highly value independence and freedom. That could make their team-up for the final battle very meaningful. Conversely, you can use your characterâs deepest fears and desires to help design the plot. Is your character deeply insecure about voicing their opinions or taking a stand, because of trauma they faced in the past? Make them face that. Build that into the climactic third act. Give them the big inspirational speech where they stand up and talk about what they believe to be important, what they think the group should do. And then design that character arc to run through the story, giving you more handholds and stepping stones, more pieces of foundation on which to design the plot.
In this way, character should inform story as much as story informs character. Itâs a feedback loop.
Bonus: if you build your character and your plot off of each other in this way, it automatically starts to build in the foundations of that emotional investment I mentioned earlier. If your characterâs decisions are based on what they most want and do not want in life, you basically have your character motivation and stakes pre-built.
Note: you need to know these things about your villain, too.
-_-_-
Iâm genuinely sorry about the length of this, lmao. But you did ask.
Best of luck!
Edit: I forgot an important one:
17) Start when the scene starts and end when the scene ends.
What do I mean by that?
If your notes say âDanny asks Nicole out after school and majorly flubs it,â start the scene when Danny approaches Nicole after school. Better yet, cold-open the scene on âI was wondering if, you know, youâd wanna. You know. Hang out some time?â
Donât start that morning when Danny goes to school, unless youâre gonna cover the school day in like one or two sentences. Donât spend whole paragraphs going through the school day, unless itâs to cover other plot points first (in which case apply these same guidelines there), or if the paragraphs are there for a specific reason, like to illustrate how stressed he is and how it seems like every little thing is going wrong. Even then, trim the fat as much as possible. Expounding and describing everything Moment-to-moment is for the meat of the scenes, not the leading-up-to and coming-away-from.
Hereâs my rule of thumb: study how and when movies cut from scene to scene. Movies have exceptionally strict, limited time for storytelling; theyâre excellent examples of starting a scene when the plot point starts and ending when itâs over. If you canât picture a movie showing everything you showed, start the scene later and end it earlier.

Ask-LU-Wild
Hello and welcome to the show! Ask-LU-Wild (ALUW) is a blog that consists of primarily comics and text posts where you get to ask the Hero of the Wilds the questions you've been dying to know!
Please remember that as of the "Fairies, We Shrank the Wild" (previously "a not-so-wild child") arc, Wild uses the pronouns They/Them. They still identify as a boy currently. This is subject to change in the future.
My name is Author. I'm 22, and my pronouns are Vi/Viol, as in Violet.
Ask-LU-Wild Started out as a fanfiction of Linked Universe by Jojo, but the story and characters are vastly different. As of 14 April 2022, despite the name of the blog staying the same, its association with Linked Universe is somewhat distant.
CONTENT WARNING: Ask-LU-Wild contains scenes that are highly graphic in the blood, gore, and body horror sense. Viewer discretion advised.
If you would like to still read the blog but still filter specific subjects, please refer to the Trigger Warnings section in "A Link to the Tags". Remember that the more graphic content will be labeled under Nightmare Fuel. Please filter this tag if you feel you need to. Because our main character is low-key immortal, death is not a trigger warning.
Rules
Use the inbox to only interact with the characters. If you would like to ask me, Author, something, please use @author-main.
I'm not a teacher, I'm a storyteller. I can't explain everything down to a science, and I'm learning as I go along. While I do research topics when needed, some of the things I write about are from experience and observation. Please respect and understand that. If there's something you want to help me understand, please use my main blog's inbox.
Even though this blog is no longer that connected to Linked Universe, I would ask that we keep the no NSFW/Linkcest rule. Though the Links in ALUW may be very affectionate/loving to each other, it's all platonic. That being said, I don't have a problem with a little raunchy humor every now and again. If jokes or light talk about sex bothers you, it's not constant, but reader discretion is advised anyway. Know that this isn't an attack on people who enjoy NSFW and Linkcest content, it's just that I'd like to keep the found family trope on this blog, and just... not deal with NSFW here.
Please keep personal experiences to a minimum, especially if they're heavy. They've started throwing me off and I want to keep the heavy stuff from the audience to a minimum.
If the story is getting a bit too rough for you, please leave, or take a break at the least. Your mental health is important. However, if something upsets you, please don't attack me or the story because of that. I don't know you. I don't know what you don't like, nor what hurts you. I am not responsible for you. You are your own responsibility. Please remember that.
And on that note, I think it's important for me to say that tagging triggers aren't mandatory. I didn't tag them because I'm obligated to. I have no obligation to do anything, not even make this blog. Tagging is a courtesy.
Please respect my headcanons, ships, design choices, character choices, etc. I respect all of your ideas for Linked Universe/LoZ and I request the same respect for ALUW.
I want to make note that no specific mental illnesses are chosen for these characters, except for the obvious PTSD, and occasionally depression. Things like insomnia or paranoia have been named, and symptoms of mental illness are present and touched upon.
I'm in the process of figuring out all of the Zelda games to write this story. If I miss something, bear with me, please. I don't think my versions of Four and Wind will have gone through Four Swords Adventures and Spirit Tracks.
As of this point, no manga. However, there is a potential that this rule might be retracted.
You can complement the Links, but do not ask to kiss them or act in a lewd way, especially the minor Links and other characters (Wild, Four, and Wind). Sex jokes are allowed but make sure they aren't too graphic and maybe only say those jokes around adult characters.

A Link to the Tags: all commonly-used tags in ALUW. This includes trigger warnings, character tags, and arc tags.
Note: "A not-so-wild child" has been renamed to "Fairies we Shrank the Wild"
Author-Main: My main blog. A lot of stuff happens there. I don't tag spoiler content though, so watch out for that.
Angster's Paradise Discord: A discord run by @hiddenteddy and me.
Wild's Sheikah Slate Discord: A discord mainly meant for ALUW updates and stuff. It's only run by myself.
Ko-fi: I don't get paid for this blog, obviously. But as a broke college graduate, I would appreciate it if you donated. I do commissions and own a shop too. So I recommend following.
Youtube: Occassional speedpaints.

đ· Please be kind and respectful towards the mun, the muse and all other persons and muses interacting on this blog.
đ· This blog is 19+. Mun is 25+ and does not feel comfortable to interact with minors.
đ· I am open to interacting with anyone from any fandom. I am not mutual-exclusive and I usually follow back within a few days if I think I can comply with your rules and see the possibility to interact. If I cannot find your age, your rules or basic information about your muses, I most likely will not follow back. I am more hesitant to follow rl fc, but is not an absolute no, either. That being said, I prefer to interact with mutuals.
đ· I tend to write longer than shorter and I usually try to match your length. However, you are not required to do so. I also write on-liners, but rather for the muses with some established relations.
đ· I am not time-bound and I am happy to have tons of open threads. Different time points? Yes, I am for it. Various scenarios for our muses? Yes, I am for it. Various verses? Extremely happy to have them.
đ· #TW and #NSFW asks are accepted provided you and your muse is of age.
đ· I myself have little to no triggering issues, but will try my best to mark everything accordingly. Having said that, please do not send asks on i*****, r***, p******** and any related nauseating issues.
đ· I will use #nsfw tag for (more) explicit content and #suggestive for all other. #tw tag will be followed by additional tagging. Please do not hesitate to DM me if you need any specific content to be tagged for you.
đ· That being said, smut might appear on this blog, but I am only comfortable writing it with persons I talk ooc, and when our muses have established relations.
đ· Reasonable level of godmodding is acceptable, especially for starters and developing the plot. Please apply common sense.
đ· I do not mind my muse getting hurt if it is a logical consequence of the plot. Also in starters. Again, please apply common sense. Or plot it with me.
đ· If your muses have special abilities, please do use them on my muse. I always read the rules and the bio and I have decided to interact with your muse. But please note that Nunnally is not so defenseless as she might seem, and her responses might also vary.
đ· Nunnally is open for all kind of shipping, but please keep in mind she is not easy to romantically ship with. I prefer ships to be chemistry- and writing-based than pre-established. Mainly because I am not too good at plotting, if we just started to interact. It becomes much easier later. But if you have any idea, please do share it. I will most likely be there for it.
đ· This blog will address serious issues, among which the most common is child abuse, psychical and psychological violence, drugs, Stockholm syndrome, depression and forced/arranged marriage. Please consider yourself warned at this point. NSFW, mafia and gore themes may also appear on this blog.
đ· My muses will not interact with any muses that are not at least 16 years old. Unless we talked ooc about it before.
đ· Please no hate towards anybody. I would like this blog to be a safe place for everyone who accepts its triggering issues.
đ· Please note I am not Nunnally. And the views expressed here are those of hers. And Nunnally is a troubled individual with specific mindsets.
đ· If we follow each other, you are the rp blog, and do not have any interactions for a longer time, I might unfollow. Although I do understand the need for breaks and periods of inactivity. If I unfollow you, I will soft block you, and I ask for the same courtesy.
đ· I can wait for the reply. I do not mind it. Please work at your own pace. It is a hobby and not a work.
đ· I do not take it personal if you do not follow me back. I understand that you might not be interested in interacting with me or my muse. However, I will probably unfollow after some time as well.
đ· Please note I will be trimming my posts. You do not have to, but I would like to keep my mutuals' dashes neat and clean. I am on beta editor and I am not able to trim your posts if you are using legacy. If that is the case, I will either reblog without cutting (for shorter replies) or start a new post for the long ones.
đ· My DM are always open if you'd like to plot or discuss something. I have a discord as well available upon request.
đ· And finally, this blog was made for fun. So, let's have fun!

okokok so its kinda like the consumption of skewed fiction is okay as long as you know the difference between what is and isnt okay in society? i think thats what im getting maybe? but what if someone reads that kind of fiction and like, also agrees that that kind of thing is okay irl? would they be a proshipper or would they be something else?
i think i can understand it, its just a deal of knowing that fiction is, fiction, and its not okay for fucked up fiction to happen irl? like i can read a story about i dunno, a town falling apart due to mysterious murders and enjoy the plot but if i were to say "man, im really wanting dozens and dozens of innocent people to be gruesomely murdered i think thatd be a really neat thing to happen" then thatd be a problem because at that point id think that kinda thing is okay amd id be wanting that kinda fucked up shit inflicted on real people?
OR OR IS IT LIKE TWILIGHT?? people like twilight for lotsa different reasons, some like the movie because its outrageously toxic and badly made, some like it because of the concept of "this is a toxic relationship and its extremely entertaining" and some like it because they idolize the relationship between bella and edward and i guess jacob. the difference between these three is that the first two recognize this relationship as fiction and bad, whereas the last one idolizes the toxic relationship and probably wishes that kind of relationship to be irl. the first two know the relationship is not okay but the last one thinks it is?
IM SORRY IM JUST TRYING TO HET MY HEAD WRAPPED AROUND THIS PLEASE TELL ME IF IVE GOT SOMETHING WRONG
~krabs :]
you grasp this really well dude dont apologize at all!!
what you said at the start - "the consumption of skewed fiction is okay as long as you know the difference between what is and isnt okay in society" - is such a perfect and succinct way of explaining it, or at least how i see it:
a person who is proship/profiction is someone who thinks that bad stuff (mysterious murders! toxic relationships! all the things u mentioned!) is okay in fiction but not in real life! ayyy
not everyone who agrees with that calls themself "proship" (lots of them r just ppl who think its common sense, not a label, lol) and not all proshippers have good views. but thats the basis of the proship community in fandom!!
the reason there are so many antis, or people who think proship is bad, is because people jump to conclusions when taboo stuff is involved. it kinda goes like this: person A ships something with an unhealthy age gap, or whatever -> person B assumes that because A spends time writing or drawing it, they think it is okay irl -> B thus makes a post falsely claiming A is a pedo/abuser/whatever -> person B's followers take this at face value, without checking further.
this spreads like wildfire online! you know how it is.
its also important to know that: 1.) when someone makes content with these dark themes like murder or abuse or so forth, they should be tagging it/otherwise making sure people don't have to see it if they don't want to. its just common courtesy, so that nobody gets triggered. 2.) fiction and reality are different, but fiction still affects reality. writing about a murderer is okay, mentioning someone being transphobic in a story is okay. but trying to incite violence with hate speech, or turning a character into a transphobic caricature, etc, is obviously Not okay. ik ur aware of that! im just sayin that anyone who responds to criticism for bigotry with "fiction =/= reality!!" is misusing that phrase.

ă MOBILE FRIENDLY RULES ă
â here you will find my rules or can also find them on my gdocs as well once iâm done with it. please like this if you read it, but otherwise donât interact with this post, thank you. rest assured that i always read my moots rules before following and that i fully expect the same courtesy. i tried not to let them get too long but feel free to ask me anything you wanna know about them if itâs not clear ok?
 ă THE MUNă
NOXTROMUN, THEY/THEM, 21+, BRAZILIAN
shy but friendly ! i don't follow for follow, if i follow you that means i've read your rules and want to write with you. i have no triggers nor squicks of my own except drama in the dash, for that reason i do not engage in callouts/witch hunts and if you do it on a constant basis i might have to hard block you for my own peace of mind. although i may come off too strong/harsh, i am always up to talking things out privately. as long as you are civil, so am i. any form of hate will be deleted and blocked -  sometimes mocked, if iâm feeling cockyâŠ
ă THE BLOGă
HELLROOTS, INDIE ( POTENTIALLY TRIGGERING AND NOT MINOR FRIENDLY ), HIGHLY SELECTIVE & PRIVATE MULTIFANDOM MULTIMUSE
primarily run on a low activity \ effort and with a slow speed.. my muselist changes a lot, depends a lot on what iâm watching lately so bear with me please. this is a drama free zone, therefore do realise that mun â muses and (obviously) writing â condoning !! as a quick note, do keep in mind that my blog is my safe space, just as your blog is yours - you are responsible for your own internet experience just as i am responsible for mine. should anything in my blog annoy/trigger/squick you, i strongly encourage you to block me & not write with me - your mental health is far more important ( for me, and hopefully for you as well ) than rp. on that note, please do not softblock me - thatâs annoying, just hardblock please.
ă THE TRIGGERSă
TRIGGER HEAVY, PROPERLY TAGGED AND TAKING NO CRAP
i  usually  tend to write for trigger heavy fandoms (such as asoiaf, kingdom and others) and may incorporate some of it into my writing, muses' backgrounds and overall characterization. if you're bothered \ squicked \ triggered by that, i kindly encourage you to reconsider and not follow me. no amount of rp fun is worth your mental health.  i try to tag everything accordingly and i fully expect the same courtesy for our followers' sakes. be aware that there may be mentions of death, gore, violence, consanguinamory \ endogamy (especially when it comes to the lannisters and kekkei genkai clans), rape ( kingdom, though it will only be mentioned on the characterâs backstory ) and cannibalism ( hannibal and kingdom ) , as well as unhealthy relationships and dynamics alongside with powerplay, and otherwise bad behaviours.  for all that is sacred, please, do note that i, the mun, do not approve, support or condone any of these actions or behaviours !!  i simply am capable of separating fiction from reality. as long as everything is properly tagged, with mutual consent and there are no minors involved (muse and especially not muns), . i support the right of a consenting adult to explore these awful dark topics in a safe fictional environment with other like minded consenting adults, people shouldnât have to share their traumas to strangers on the internet to explain why they write what they write, be considerate. if that notion bothers you perhaps you might not want to interact with me, for both of ours sakes. fair warning, most of my graphics and aesthetics might trigger those who have xylophobia/hylophobia (phobia of trees or wooded areas), and considering it is a main theme here i will not be tagging it, i'm sorry. but its too many. however, if you want me to create a special tag for you, there's no issue! it will be either "[your mun name] don't look!" or "[your url] don't look!", whichever you prefer. QUICK EDIT/ADDITION: i do not believe that aging up fictional characters is inherently a bad thing - from what i understand, the whole appeal of aging up a character is that while you like their personality but you do not want them to be kids (for whatever reason) but insteasd adults. if you are one of those who think that aging up a character is automatically something bad (without even knowing why it was done in the first place) donât bother following me because i do think that opinion is quite silly.
ă THE INTERACTIONSă
OC, DUPLICATE, MULTIMUSE AND CANON DIVERGENT FRIENDLY
my tagging system is simple, i tag triggers as "tw; x" and . images that may be sensitive or triggering as "cw; x". you can further see how my tags work by taking a look at my tag dump post, just search âtag dumpâ on my blog and you will find the most recent one iâm using. Â Â i shitpost and talk oocly on the dash constantly but you can easily blacklist my tag if it bothers you. Â here's something you should know about me: Â when i'm doing drafts i usually don't feel like chatting much, so please do not spam me because i won't be able to reply, i love to talk with my moots but sometimes it overwhelms me. Â on that note, please don't pester me for replies ic or ooc, i am slow and chances are that if you try to guilt trip me or just nag me about it i'll leave as the ones i'll get to in the later end on purpose, just out of spite. yes, i be like that. Â please be patient - iâll never pressure you and expect the same in return. Â plotting wise: i prefer to just wing it with just a faint idea of where to take the thread but honestly i'm cool with anything. please be considerate when formatting your replies, i have a bad eyesight & if i can't read it, i won't bother with it. Â my own formatting is simple and clean. Â on a smaller note, please bear with me and my muses as my muses ramble a lot but you don't have to match the length, just give me something to work with. if we write together, the chances of me making edits/tagging you in stuff are really big, just lmk if you donât like that though !
ă THE FLEETă
MOSTLY BI/PAN MUSES, MULTISHIP AND MULTIVERSE, SMUT FRIENDLY
i love shipping but i like my ships to be devices to move the plot/dynamics/muses forward, every once in a while though i partake in some much loved self indulgent shipping. just because i ship a certain pairing don't presume that my characters are approaching yours with second intentions, please.   most of the time i like to reblog those relationship memes, so if youâre interested in a ship the best way (other than sending me a message ofc) to let me know is by sending ones. there will be some triggering ships here ( like the lannisters, both cersei x jaime and joanna x tywin are my otps, and potential inter clan ships, like with the hyugas - i mean how the hell you think they keep the byakugan in their family?? ) that may either be played with trusted friends or be mentioned/reblogged sometimes, all properly tagged so you can easily blocklist/avoid it.  most of my muses are either bi or pan, those who are not will be specified. don't be afraid to reach out to me for shipping right off the bat - i'd rather have you to be open and honest with me about the interactions you want than lying to me, just know that there will be needed some plotting and threading first to see if your muses match. as an adult, my blog is smut friendly, i partake in sexual sunday a lot because some of my muses are very lewd in nature, you can blacklist my tag if that bothers you as well.
ă THE FINAL NOTESă
GENERAL RP ETIQUETTE APPLIES, CREDITS, THANK YOU FOR READING MY RULES
lastly but not least, general rp etiquette applies on my blog: no godmodding, forced ships, etc. thereâs only ONE thing that truly makes me go apeshit crazy, and itâs when people donât read my rules. i ALWAYS find out and itâs not pretty; i block it like itâs hot, âȘ ⫠⏠block it like itâs hot âȘ â« âŹ.  i strongly assure you that i always read your rules before both following you and also before sending memes, just in case. on a much smaller note, iâm not so hot on single shipping and i really feel weirded out about people forcing me to pic who iâm going to interact with due to theirs DNIâs. while i get DNIâs when it comes to actual predators, when itâs something seemingly random chances are that iâll softblock you because it weirds me out how volatile some can be when it comes to a hobby. i have some trigger heavy hcs ( for example, the one about jiraiyaâs hypersexuality being rooted in trauma that he suffered at a young age ) that i share with only a few muns that are closer with me, so iâll be mentioning them every once in a while but wonât share them, please donât insist. i donât really like most of the main characters of the franchises i write for, and when it comes to certain characters i reserve the right to decline an rp for my own comfort. for further info on what i use to make my graphics please check my âCREDITS.â tag. most of my stuff is made by me, iâve got a lowkey rph in case you wanna check it out itâs @brazucahelps, however if you want a custom content i can see if i get a free time to come up with something :D
IF YOU READ THIS FAR, THANK YOU SO MUCH â JUST ONE LAST THING, COULD YOU PLS LIKE THIS SO I KNOW YOUâVE READ IT? <3 THANKS!

I have seen you fetishizing gay ships, and Iâd politely ask you to stop. This fandom has many fujoshi, and we donât need another one. Itâs deeply insulting to the lgbtq+ community.
Considering that youâre accusing me of fetishising gay ships politely, lemme try to be as polite as possible, too.
Well, I actually had to search up what a fujoshi is first, and???? Courtesy of urban dictionary:
Uhm... I wouldnât consider myself a fujoshi, but whatâs so bad about liking and enjoying gay relationships? I seriously hope Iâm not misunderstanding anything here, but you saying that this fandom has too many fujoshi... is not a bad thing? Why would it be? Ikemen Vampire is a game with 15 amazing guys, and some of them are bound to have great compatibility.
Also, about me fetishising gay shipsâ
Sure, I ship Vincent and Arthur, Napoleon and Jean... but Iâve never fetishised it. I simply enjoy the dynamics of their relationships.
And on that note, Iâm going to answer some anons that have felt the need to tag these gay ships specifically as gay.
Iâve said it before and Iâm going to say it again. No. No I will never ever include âgayâ, âblâ, or anything like that in my tags. Iâm not saying you shouldnât, nor that itâs a bad thingâmy blog is still in its renovation phase rn too, so I have to fix some a lot of tags anyways. If you want to use these or use these tags, thatâs totally okay, and I donât have a problem with that. But I still wonât label the same-sex ships that I myself post about and reblog as just that on my blog.
Why? Do I tag things as straight? No. I donât think I do, so I donât see the need to tag other sexualities. What is that? You donât want to see content based on other sexualities? Thatâs fine, you can unfollow and block me. If you have issues with any of my decisions, morals, etc. and youâd rather not talk to me about it, I understand that youâd want to unfollow/blog me.
I donât want anyone to feel uncomfortable, but Iâm also not going to give you the ability to censor something thatâs completely normal. nsfw and angst/trigger warnings are a different story. Once I fix my blog Iâll tag everything I could find in my archives brrr. Itâs 2021; if you havenât learnt to accept and tolerate things you donât like, then please, follow Squidward.
Take care everyone, drink your water, and try to catch your 8 hours of sleep đđđ
